Dmitri Shostakovich - Suite for Two Pianos, Op. 6, IV. Finale
Just a few thoughts:
Dmitri composed this four movement piece after the sudden death of his father in 1922. He wrote it to express the pain he felt in losing his father and specifically intended for both himself and his older sister to play it together in memory of the one they’d lost.
[Short little blurb, but I wrote a paper on Shostakovich this semester and thought that it’d make it so much more meaningful for the listener if they didn’t know any of the back story. Here’s the book that talked about it:
